RHYL'S WINNING RUN CONTINUES

PORTHMADOG 0
RHYL 3

Pearson 55, Darlington 80, Rudd 85

After playing the first three games of the new season at Belle Vue, and picking up nine points, Rhyl's first away game was a trip to bottom of the table, Porthmadog, who had also come down from the Welsh Premier League with them. The hosts only had a solitary point to show from their opening three games, but trips to Y Traeth had always proved tricky for Rhyl in the past, and this one was no different.

RESERVES LOSE ENTERTAINING MATCH
Written by Mark Chesterton
Sunday, 05 September 2010 16:55

RHYL RESERVES 1
Malloy 47
LLANDUDNO TOWN RESERVES 3
Owen 54p & 58, Evans 70

The only thing wrong with this thoroughly entertaining game, was the 3-1 defeat for Rhyl, as both teams decided all out attack was the best policy.

Llandudno bossed the first 15 minutes, launching attack after attack and forcing Rhyl keeper Sam Connop into a couple of good saves. Rhyl's first attack came on 16 minutes, as Man of the Match Seb Walker spotted Town keeper Danny Adams well out of his goal and tried an audacious 40 yard shot that went just wide. Two minutes later, Walker had the ball in the net, only for it to be ruled offside. The visitors had a couple of chances that did not test Connop, before Rhyl put together the move of the half on 25 minutes. Jay Malloy broke, but was pushed wide by the Town defence before crossing for Alex Ballard, who shot was blocked. The ball then fell to Declan Thomas, who put it just wide. Walker had another chance for Rhyl, but the visitors could have scored twice, as Connop saved well with his feet from Zac Evans, then Jack Jones missed a sitter after being put through. The half ended with an Ally Parsonage free kick hitting the bar.

Rhyl took the lead on 47 minutes. David Evans won the ball in his own half, before putting it through to Malloy, who superbly lobbed the advancing keeper. Rhyl then had two chances to extend the lead. On 51 minutes, Malloy received the ball from Ballard, but Town keeper Adams saved, and a minute later, Evans forced Walker the shoot just wide. The visitors equalised on 54 minutes. Connop brought down Evans in the box, and Mark Owen scored from the spot. Four minutes later, another goal from Owen put Llandudno in front. He shot from the edge of the area, but a wicked deflection left Connop flat footed. Owen had a chance to complete his hat trick on 66 minutes, but shot over, before Town went 3-1 up on 70 minutes. After a free kick near the corner flag, Evans headed home the cross. The rest of the game saw Llandudno trying to add to their score. Connop made a double save from Evans and Niall Owen, before Rhyl lost Ballard on 81 minutes with what looked like a serious leg injury. Connop made another fine save, before the game ended with an Ashley New effort for Rhyl being deflected over.

TEAM: SAM CONNOP, ASHLEY NEW, JAKE SMITH, BEN KNIGHT, DAVID EVANS, JAMES STEAD (JORDAN TAYLOR 61), ALLY PARSONAGE (STE OWEN 45), DECLAN THOMAS, SEB WALKER, JAY MALLOY, ALEX BALLARD (MATTY HURST 81).

DEATH OF FORMER RHYL FAVOURITE
Written by Kevin Davies
Friday, 03 September 2010 11:24

Rhyl Football Club is saddened to learn of the death of former player Haydn Jones. Haydn was a much admired and popular player for the Lilywhites in the mid to late 1960s, a highly rated and stylish performer who was also very versatile. Haydn played at full back for most of his time at Rhyl but also performed in mid field and on occasion at centre forward.

Haydn played for a number of teams along the North Wales Coast and was popular at everyone of them, a character who was always immaculate in his dress sense both on and off the field. He will be fondly remembered by everyone connected with Rhyl Football Club and we offer our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
